Paul is 47 and lives in Basingstoke. In 2013 he suffered a spinal injury and spent eight months in hospital. When he came out of hospital he couldn’t walk, this had a detrimental effect on his life. He couldn’t return to work in a local factory as that required standing up and physical exertion that was just impossible for him to do now. He felt low and unwell.

In 2014 Paul’s mother had seen a flyer for Fluid Motion Theatre Company’s 10 week ‘Confidence and Employability Course’ and told him to go along and try it out. Paul turned up to the first session in his wheelchair, shy and reserved.

When he left in week 10 he no longer used the wheelchair and was brimming with confidence. Fluid Motion then gave Paul the chance to volunteer as a course assistant, helping other people in a similar position. He is now volunteering with multiple organisations, building his skills so that he can get back into full time employment.
