How we are going to make everybody count
The key to Fluid Motion’s future success is being democratic in everything it does. We need to put people at the heart of everything we do. Not just say we do on a bit of paper or in a throwaway sentence on a mission statement. We need to actually talk to them, understand them, get to know them. We need to open up every part of our process and share the challenges along the way.
How are we going to do this?
Our Artistic Director has written a statement outlining our commitment to making everybody count. However actions speak louder than words, so here are six key things we are doing immediately:
Making sure the public decides on our yearly theme. (This has already started with the 2021 theme ‘Resilience’ winning the recent public vote by 41%.)
Establishing monthly ‘Fluid Conversations’ from July 2020. These will be online to start with and will be a space where anyone can ask or suggest anything to us, about our work.
Building our community of volunteers, starting with our ‘virtual volunteers’ as part of the All in the Mind Festival 2020.
Establishing a programming panel for future All in the Mind Festivals that is open for anyone to attend and take part in.
Picking up the phone and having a conversation with people, especially when it comes to getting feedback, rather than sending emails back and forth.
Getting rid of formal Q&A’s after shows and holding ‘conversation cafes’ or ‘discussion drinks’ instead.
This is just a starting point, there is a lot more work to be done and this will evolve over the weeks and months ahead as we talk to people.
If you have any ideas, suggestions or changes you feel we could be making now then please drop our Artistic Director an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or give him a call on 07935680209
